A Little Late.....

With the Holiday Weekend we are a little behind posting our
MAKE IT MONDAY this week.  But we know you will agree that this MAKE IT MONDAY is better late than never!!  Thank you Karie for the fantastic idea!

While browsing the web a while back I came across this darling idea for a pincushion http://www.spincushion.com/2011/08/frame-of-mind-pincushion-.html.  I found some small frames in the dollar bin at Michaels and thought they would be perfect for friend/neighbor/teacher gifts. I played around with a few prints before thinking of using burlap for the cushion cover. However, burlap has too loose of a weave for such a tiny frame (the opening is just over 2 inches in diameter). Then I found some osnaburg in my stash. Perfect! I followed the directions found on the above mentioned post to stuff the cushion. Then I added a fabric rosette, a few felt leaves, some darling pins, and voila! It looks so cute sitting on my desk and is functional too. Go find some decorative frames, a fabric scrap or two and share your cushion with us!

What's New Wednesday!

What's new this week?  The question should be, "what isn't new this week?!?"  Sandy and I have finally returned from Quilt Market.  I say finally because we ended up driving home from Kansas City!  That is a 1,000 mile drive, but time spent together as sisters, with our Mom, is ALWAYS a DELIGHT!

THE MOST EXCITING NEWS, that we can FINALLY announce, is SANDY HAS DESIGNED A FABRIC LINE called HAPPY EVER AFTER for Riley Blake Designs.  The fabric will be in stores in OCTOBER!  Our FACEBOOK friends were teased with pictures from Quilt Market showcasing her line.  But for our BLOGGING FRIENDS here are the first pictures of the DARLING fabrics....

The panel Sandy has designed comes in two colorways, one with a blond princess and one with a brunette princess.  The panel makes one "paper doll", eight dresses and a large bed pillow with pockets to hold the doll and clothing.  The pillow has a "bed pocket" for the doll and an "armoire pocket" for the clothing :)  I have a VERY CLEVER and TALENTED SISTER

Now back to more Quilt Market info; I spent the morning receiving all our FABULOUS FINDS, they are on display and sure to please any of your fancies!  Here is a peak at just a few of them.....

All of these books and patterns are in the store now, but as you see by how cute they are, they will not last long!

More To Come....

Sandy, our Mom and I are headed to Kansas City for Spring Quilt Market.  We will be posting lots of pictures on FACEBOOK throughout the weekend.  And when we return early next week we will have plenty of things to show you here on the blog.  So stay tuned!!

MAKE IT MONDAY!

My good friend Leslie asked me to embellish some plain t-shirts she purchased for her daughter.  One of which was a simple white tank top.  I knew I wanted to add ruffles, but really didn't want to make traditional ruffles.  I came up with the idea of using eyelet trim.  Now I haven't seen eyelet trim used this way before, but I am sure in the creative world out there someone else has :)  So sorry if this isn't a fresh idea for you, but I think you will still be pleased with the end result!

To begin you will need a simple white tank top and 1.25 to 1.5 yards of eyelet trim.  The size of this tank top is medium (8-10), and I cut my eyelet trim strips into five 7" pieces.  If you are embellishing a shirt that is smaller or larger, you may want to adjust the length of your strips.

The next step is laying out the strips to make sure placement of the strips is correct. The first strip of eyelet trim needs to be directly below the neckline.  As you lay out each of the other eyelet strips, you will want to make sure the top edge of the eyelet trim lays underneath the scalloped edge of the eyelet strip above.

Once you have decided your placement, pin the lowest eyelet strip in place.  Take it to your sewing machine and sew in place.

Once you have sewn the lowest strip in place, take your shirt back over to your table and lay it flat. Pin the next strip in place.  Then go back to your sewing machine and sew this strip in place.

Repeat this step for the remaining strips.

Once all five strips are sewn in place your embellished tank top is complete!

Just look how cute the little girl in your life will be while wearing her DARLING embellished tank:)

I hope you enjoyed this weeks MAKE IT MONDAY!!
