Ombre is everywhere! Whether you are looking at dishes at Target, or shopping for fabric at your favorite quilt shop - PINE NEEDLES :)
While admiring our selection of Ombre Dots by Riley Blake Designs, I decided I needed to make a pillowcase dress to showcase these beautiful fabrics. I used the pattern "Simply Sunny pillowcase dress" by Retro Mae Patterns and made two different versions, one blue and one orange. I LOVE them! The blue version is my favorite because the color changes are more evident.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the ombre trend?

What's New Wednesday!
This weeks' What's New Wednesday! is FABULOUS! If you love cuddle (or minkee) as much as we do, then you will love two new things we have in the shop.
First, we will now be offering the cuddle in 5" strips. This will allow you to build your own Cuddle Strip Quilt (our most popular quilts in the shop). YAY!!
Next, are two different quilt kits for a fabulous pattern called So Simple Baby Blankets by McKay Manor Musers. The pattern includes instructions for 6 different blankets. We chose to make up a textured version for boys and one for girls, and we LOVE them!!!
Come in and touch these fabulous new blankets, you will want to make them whether or not there is a baby in your life!!
We hope to see you soon!

What's New Wednesday
It's time for another What's New Wednesday, I mean Thursday! I feel like I have barely caught my breath from the frenzy last week at the Wasatch Front Shop Hop. WOW! It was so much fun this year, I loved our theme "Happy Days!" I am still listening to the 50s music on my I-phone, and still dancing around, only now I am not wearing that fabulous pink skirt I donned for Shop Hop. I have to say it is not as much fun to dance without the skirt ;)
This week I want to show you a few things that are new, some were in the store for Shop Hop and some just arrived this week! CrAzY I know!
There is a peak of a few things that are new in the store this week, we will show more next week!

Make It Monday
For this week's Make It Monday I decided I wanted to do something super simple and perfect for summer. With the gorgeous weather outside, we've been spending more time on the go and I need something cute but FAST to do with my hair each morning. This headband is great when you need to tie your hair back quickly but still want to look cute and put together.
The only supplies you'll need are a quarter yard of fabric and some matching thread. I chose this bright polka dot that is in stock at the shop right now. There were lots of colors to choose from, it was tough to make a decision!
You'll cut your fabric into two 3 1/2 inch strips...
And you'll sew those two pieces together like I demonstrate below...
One- Lay the two pieces of fabric right sides together with the corners making a 90 degree angle.
Two- Sew diagonally across the two pieces.
Three- Trim off your excess.
Once you have your two pieces sewn together, you'll probably want to trim it down a bit. I trimmed mine down to 63 inches and that seemed to fit my head well. You can wrap your piece around your head and decide how long you'd like it to be.
Open up your two pieces and your seam should look like this. Press your seam.
Turn your headband around and iron the edges in towards the center 1/2 inch...
(like you see below)
To add a nice finished end to your headband, fold the end into a point like you see I've done below...
Then fold the whole thing in half and press your headband well.
Top stitch all along the open edge of your headband using a matching thread.
And you're done!
You can wrap your headband lots of different ways but my favorite way is to twist it on the top and tie it underneath...
Hope you all are having a FUN summer!

What's New Wednesday!
Hi everyone! I am excited to show you a couple new models hanging in the store now. First is an absolutely DARLING, FRILLY quilt by The Quilted Fish titled Apple of My Eye...
I just love the three dimensional apples in this quilt. What a CLEVER idea. Amanda is so talented and we appreciate her allowing us to display her beautiful work!
The next quilt model I want to show you is a quilt that Cecilia made for the store. Using the pattern Perfect Ten by Swirly Girl Designs and using the fabric line COOL BRITTANIA by Benartex (with a few Riley Blake Designs' chevron basics for just the right amount of pizazz, don't you agree?). This quilt comes just in time for the the Olympics being held in London this summer, but could also be made to remember Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee.

Farmers Market at Gardner Village
Beginning tomorrow, Saturday, June 2nd, and continuing every Saturday through September, Gardner Village will host an INCREDIBLE Farmers Market. Over 80 booths and vendors will line the pathways in Gardner Village. At every market you will find FARM FRESH PANCAKE BREAKFAST, local FRUITS & VEGGIES, ANIMAL TRAIN, ARTS & CRAFTS, LIVE MUSIC, KIDS ACTIVITIES and FUN! After all, everything is better when it is homegrown and homemade!
We too will be a part of the Market with our booth SEW FABULOUS!, homemade items from the friends and family of Pine Needles. There are some DARLING items that are too cute to pass up! Sometimes it is better to buy a completed project, then it is to take one home for you to make for yourself :)
