OK, so I have a secret and I can't tell.  Well, I could tell, but I won't.  I'm really good at keeping secrets.   I know, it's terrible to tease you like this, but tease you I must.  Check the blog and your email basket early next week because I'm going to burst by then and spill the beans!

Merry Christmas!

Table Tiles Tutorial

Here is a super quick project that would make a great Christmas gift.  I designed Table Tiles to use Moda's Candy Bar's but you could easily use a charm pack, perfect because  Day 4 of the 12 Days of Christmas means Buy one ‘pre-cut’, get a second ‘pre-cut’ for 50% off

.  I hope you enjoy!
~Sandy~
Supplies:
  • 1/2 yard background fabric
  • 1 Moda candy bar (2 1/2" x 5" rectangles)
  • 1/2 yard backing
  • 1/3 yard binding
  • 18" x 45" batting
Construction:

1.  Cut background fabric to measure 18" x width of fabric.
2.  Using a water soluble marking pen or pencil draw a line 2" in from each edge.
3.  Select 8 candy bar rectangles and cut in half giving you 16 - 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" squares.
4.  Begin laying out random rectangles and squares from edge to edge as illustrated below leaving approximately 1/4" to 1/2" space between.  (The sample picture has been washed and so the spaces between tiles appear larger)
5.  Pin or glue baste rectangles and squares in place. (I used a glue stick)
6.  Layer back, batting, and runner top.  Pin together using curved safety pins.
7.  Stitch each rectangle/square in place 1/4" from raw edge which will quilt your runner as you go.
8.  Trim away excess fabric 1/2" beyond drawn lines.
8.  Bind.
9.  Wash.

12 Days of Christmas Celebration!

I am so excited for Christmas!  It is my favorite time of year, I love spending time with family and friends and seeing the joy a small gift can bring each person I love.  I have so many gifts to sew for Christmas, and some I haven't even started yet!  Sound familiar?  Sometimes I just want to go shopping and get a little retail therapy rather than think about everything that needs to be done, avoidance and denial will help...right?

Because of my theory, Pine Needles wants to Celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas with you.  Beginning December 1st come into Pine Needles to receive your special "12 Days of Christmas" punch card. The card contains twelve numbered ornaments that correspond with a special discount.  Each time you come into Pine Needles from now until December 24th, you can choose which of the 12 discounts you would like to use.  Once the discount has been used, we will stamp the ornament on your "12 Days of Christmas" punch card.  Here is a list of all of the FABULOUS discounts that can be used:

Good Times!!

Wow!  Two weeks since our last post, can that really be right?!?  What a whirlwind!  To market to market.....home again, jiggity jig.  Sandy, our Mom & I spent five nights in Houston, Texas for the International Fall Quilt Market.  (Here we are at the Aquariam for a lovely dinner courtesy of Benartex)
We were not only purchasing the latest and greatest to bring home to Pine Needles, but were also debuting Sandy's latest designs under her label Pine Mountain Designs.  Her booth was filled with the oooooohhs and aaaaahhhs from store owners from all over the country.  At Pine Needles we have the pleasure of seeing Sandy's designs year round (and usually get to see new designs from her at least once a month), but others who only get to see them once or twice a year remind us how truly unique and inspiring her designs are.  It was so fun to be a small part of that while at Quilt Market.  She has many offers on the table, with many opportunities for amazing national exposure, and I for one can not wait for the world to know my EXTREMELY TALENTED sister!
Here I order and order and order delicious fabrics from one of our favorites Michael Miller.
I ordered so much fabric that I got 30 seconds in the booth to catch as much Fabric Cash as I could.

But enough of that!  Here is a picture of our finished "Mystery Monday" which Sandy has named Deck the Walls!
It is so nice to be re-inspired and reminded of just why we love quilting.  Come to Pine Needles, see what we brought home and let us inspire you too!

October is BREWING up fun at Pine Needles!

October is a crazy month for Pine Needles, it begins with LDS Conference Weekend which brings in a lot of ladies from out-of-town.  Next week we have Fall Frenzywhich is going to be FANTASTIC (click here for all the details)!  Not to mention UEA weekend, which means here in Utah all of the school kids are out of school for a looong weekend.   Then the following weekend (October 22nd & 23rd) it is Witches Night Out.  And then we are off to Quilt Market!!!!!
Speaking of Quilt Market, Sandy has been busy designing some fun new patterns to release at Quilt Market.  But most exciting, is a new book featuring a whimsical applique quilt.  It is so, so, so, soooo cute.  The ladies at Pine Needles have had a look at some of the individual blocks, and are all beginning to collect fabric to make sure they have the perfect piece when it comes time to begin their applique!

So as you see, October is brewing up a storm in Pine Needles and in Gardner Village!

It's ALL so EXCITING!!

It is all so exciting, I had a hard time deciding what to show you first!!  But we have been working toward this so hard, I decided the first thing I should show all of you is our NEW WEBSITE!!!!!    We just L-O-V-E, love our new look!  Take some time and navigate through, I think you will love it too!

Okay, next I wanted to show you that on the Quilt Sampler website you can view more photos (including the staff photo) that were taken of our store for the Fall 2010 issue of Quilt Sampler magazine! You can also view more photos of every store featured in this issue.  It was so exciting to see the photos, and they did such a great job for all of the featured stores!  We have enjoyed every step of this process, and loved working with the Quilt Sampler team- they are awesome!

And last, but not least, the WITCHES ARE OUT AND ABOUT in Gardner Village!  This is such a great time of year to visit Gardner Village, and many families have already made it a family tradition to take pictures of their kiddos in costume around the witch displays.  But if you haven't had a chance to come and see these life size witches for yourself, you are missing out on one of the best Halloween activities ever!!!  And to make the outing even better, make sure to print one of the Which Witch Scavenger Hunt sheets and bring it with you to make sure you do not miss ANY of the displays!

We look forward to seeing all of you soon!!!  Happy Haunting!

Mystery Monday CHAPTER ONE

original colorway

Our mystery begins in the small village of Gardner on the outskirts of Salt Lake City, where quilters have gathered.  Our cast of quilters is a delightful mix of women, some of them old, some young, and every stage in-between.  They are women experienced in the fine art of quilting and new seamstresses just dipping their toes in the fountain of fabric possibilities.  But they have one thing in common which has brought them together, a curiosity of things mysterious.  So without further adieu, let the mystery quilt unfold.....

There is still time to join the mystery, just the call or come in the store to sign up.  For those of you that live out of town, we can ship each chapter to you for a weekly $2 shipping fee, or you can have the completed mystery shipped to you at the end of the five weeks for $8.95.

T-shirt Embellishing

Ever since Spring Quilt Market when I saw Little Londyn embellishing tank tops with nylon chiffon, I knew I wanted to do a variation for a Halloween shirt.  I made the long sleeved shirt for my darling 14 month old niece, Hattie, and two of the short sleeved shirts - one for the store and one for my daughter Camry (who had to wear it to school today)!  And I L-O-V-E how they turned out!  Tell me what you think.
